Antigravity is an advanced Lithium battery manufacture with market leading features and options at competitive prices.  We have been around the block with light weight batteries, and we have either had mounting, capacity, or over changing issues.  Antigravity is the best lightweight battery option on the market and one of the few parts we offer that we don’t design, customize, or manufacture ourselves.

Light weighting 

One of the 3 URGE designs ethos is removing weight.  Removing weight improves performance aspects of a car, from cornering, to braking to acceleration.  Additionally, removing weight will improve gas mileage and reduce wear on dynamic and consumable parts. A few lbs. may not seem like a big difference, but when you can find 5-25 lbs. from 5-10 parts, it adds up.  Light weight batteries are one of the few areas you can easily remove 20 lbs. or more.

 

Lithium Iron (LiFePo4)

Antigravity uses lithium iron (LiFePO4, lithium iron phosphate) vs the typical lithium cobalt batteries used in most consumer electronics or electric vehicles.  The key difference is lithium cobalt cathode has a weak bond that can cause thermal runaway (temperature acceleration potentially causing a fire) when damaged.  When that weak bond breaks, it releases heat and energy breaking more bonds nearby that release more energy.  This potential chain reaction is what can create a fire.

 The Iron Oxygen cathode in a Lithium-Ion battery has a strong bond and releases energy slowly and thus has minimal runaway or fire risk.  Additionally, Lithium Iron has more charging lifecycles and a slower discharge when stored vs Lithium Cobalt batteries.  The main negative of Lithium Iron is it is 14% less power dense than Lithium Cobalt, which is a relatively small difference.

 

Battery Management System (BMS) 

Even with a safer chemistry, Lithium-Ion batteries can still be damaged from over charging, over discharging, short circuiting, or overheating.  Lithium Iron may not catch on fire in these situations, but the capacity or cranking amperes could be diminished.  BMS monitors for these situations and reduces the risk of battery damage and performance reduction by breaking the circuit when these situations arise.

Re-Start 

Many modern cars have parasitic drain on them from various electrical systems or you can simply leave your headlights or interior lights on.  Antigravity batteries with Re-Start systems will disconnect the internal circuit of a battery once its voltage gets low enough, leaving a minimal reserve capacity to start the car.  Powersports fitments enable Re-Start by pressing a button on the battery and automotive fitments have a wireless fob that can enable restart wirelessly without opening your hood.

OEM fitment Options 

OEM fitment options may not seem like an important feature but modifying your electrical terminals or finding a safe tie down for smaller power sports batteries can be a pain.  A Lithium battery in OEM fitment size provides a simple drop-in replacement that fits the stock battery tray, tie downs and electrical terminals with 80-90% of the weight savings benefits.

OEM Capacity Options 

Another common issue with aftermarket Lithium batteries is most options tend to be made for motorcycles and they tend to have smaller capacities than OEM.  So, if your car is not you daily driver, you will either need a battery tender to keep it charged up, or may need to pull your lithium battery to charge (as you should not jump start lithium batteries) when you really want to drive your car.  Having access to OEM capacity sizes support the typical use and parasitic drain that your car was designed for.

Ultralight Weight options 

For track focused S2000s looking for maximum weight savings, URGE designs offers additional Antigravity options with lower capacities and cranking amps and/or without battery management and Re-Start.  Same Lithium Iron benefits, with enough cranking amps start the car at the track or a few times a month.  You will have to adapt the terminals to fit the battery, create a custom tie down and may need unplug the battery when not in use, but we have options with OEM cranking power that weigh less than 6 and even 4 lbs.
